A family camping trip isn’t complete without a hike through the surrounding wilderness. Hiking is a fantastic way to get your family moving, while also fostering a love for the great outdoors. However, finding a trail that’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels can be challenging.

When planning a family hike, start by researching the trails in your chosen camping area. Check their difficulty, length, and the attractions they offer. Flat, well-maintained trails with plenty of points of interest are generally better suited to beginners and children, while more challenging paths can be saved for adventurous teens and adults.

National parks often provide a range of family-friendly trails with varying degrees of difficulty. For example, the Emerald Lake Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park is a relatively easy hike with stunning views of mountain-ringed lakes, while the General Sherman Tree Trail in Sequoia National Park is a short, wheelchair-accessible path leading to the largest tree in the world.

Remember, safety should be your top priority when hiking. Always pack a map, plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and wear appropriate footwear. And, of course, don’t forget your camera – you’ll want to capture these beautiful memories!
